These soups are fantastic. Bread recipes are wonderful. Everything I've made from this cookbook has gotten high marks from the family. Easy,nutritious, and varied. Recommend highly.

It is recipe books like this gem that have resparked my interest in cookbooks. The layout is easy to follow, I love the way that the details about how long it will take plus the “what I could pair it it with” is not a mystery. Ivy has astute culinary sense and you seriously never have to wonder what she was thinking when she offers a recipe. This is a rare gem in our current world of allrecipe disasters. I’m having such a good time with this soup book. Paired with a good Fall it’s a welcome addition!

This is an amazing book, with tons of tasty recipes that will expand your palate and give you some great ideas for your own recipes.Ivy has done a great job here explaining each dish, matching with a great bread for dipping. The photography is excellent.

I love, love, love this cookbook! The recipes are indeed easy, and quick, as advertised and the photographs are beautiful! I especially like the "flavor toolbox" in the Getting Started section and the fact that each recipe has a personal introduction. Ms. Manning is clearly passionate about sharing her love of food and cooking with us and reading her comments throughout is like spending time in the kitchen with an old friend!

Couldn't wait for this cookbook to arrive, as we all have five other Ivy Manning cookbooks. We love soup! The recipes are easy to follow, and we've already made two that were totally yummy. I love how she isn't shy about telling readers it's ok to buy broth in a store - it makes things so much easier! And I'm excited to start slipping anchovies into recipes. Bet nobody notices!

I thought this cookbook was very inventive. I have cooked my way through many soupcookbooks but I was looking for something fresh and this was just what I needed to getmy creativity moving again. It's because of this author that I just ordered Weekday Vegetarian,written by the same author. It looks very creative and fresh just like this soup cookbook. If your looking to give yourtired recipes a rest and do something awesome check this out.

If you really want to make "easy" soups using this book, be prepared to add a lot of ingredients to your kitchen pantry that you may use only once. Seems the recipes are a bit "strange" in that they really do not utilize a standard pantry inventory. Wouldn't recommend it.

Love it!! The soup recipes and the bread recipes are totally out of the box and very creative. Each soup has at least two bread suggestions so the flavors will compliment each other. Love the book markers in there so you can save it soup recipe in a bread recipe at the same time. Excellent book for anybody who loves soup

I highly recommend this book.

I had tried to read this book many times and heard of Arthur Ashe my whole life. He was a tennis star and my cousins from the inner city always received tennis rackets from parks and rec he donated and they always brought them to our home in the suburbs to play. Mike Tyson read this book in prison and has Arthur's image as a tattoo on his arm. I read several biography a about Arthur as a boy but I'm glad I read this book now as an educated adult to understand many of his points. He dies in 1993 and to understand how educated and knowledgeable he was and that his ideas transcend time was insightful. Read this book and keep in your toolbox because it's lessons in this book that will make you a better man, husband, and father.

Too Legit. Bought used for $4! Perfect condition. Arthur Ashe is an awesome human being, personal hero of mine. (Don't know about naming his kid Camera, but ehhh, whatever. You rocked it Arthur!)

One of my all time favorite tennis players, and another that departed us too soon. I have this book for many years, and purchased this as a gift for a player who is young and should learn about Arthur Ashe.

This book opened my eyes up even more. I would recommend.

Being a fan of tennis I had heard a lot about Arthur Ashe, but I really did not know too much about him. He was a really outstanding man: a black boy who lived in times when there was still segregation between blacks and whites, he had to play tennis in black-only courts; he was the first black man to win some of the most important tennis tournaments; he got a college degree which he used to promote the situation of black people; he was afflicted by severe heart problems, and in one of the surgeries he received a blood transfusion with tainted blood, being infected with AIDS. This is a very insightful book because I was able to understand the point of view of an educated black man who suffered of discrimination, how there were times that he felt resentful, how it was to live with AIDS and how to cope with journalists, how to announce it publicly and what it meant to his family. He is very articulate in his thoughts and I could feel myself walking in his shoes.

Carter Godwin Woodson (1875-1950) was an African-American historian, author, journalist and the founder of the Association for the Study of African American Life and History. He was one of the first scholars to value and study Black History. I got this book to read and also purchased the audible version and have discovered it is the missing piece of my own education. I played the audible version several times as it goes rapid pace but was convenient. It is sad to discover that many of Carter Goodwin Woodson's fears have been and continue to be realised in the racial disparity widely noted against the black skin worldwide. Although Mr. Woodson concentrated his criticism on the American social structure of his time, one of his truisms (shortened for this review) plays out daily in today's social responses: “If you can control a man’s thinking, you don’t have to worry about his actions ... and if you can make a man believe that he is justly an outcast, you don’t have to order him to the back door, he will go to the back door on his own and if there is no back door, the very nature of the man will demand that you build one.” Carter G. Woodson was not fully appreciated for his contributions whether some of those were impractical or not and that is not surprising; most brilliant minds are revered posthumously (and perhaps never fully understood). As the son of a slave one must admire Mr. Woodson's capacity to rise above his circumstances as well as his ability to see the issues that plague black people with laser-like accuracy. When reading this book, the reader can only but shake their head in silent acknowledgment of the truths stated therein. Another book that won't find its way into the general / 'public' library of American literature but which should be read by anybody trying to unravel the reasons black progress appears at times to be constantly stymied.

This is not the original publication of this book! It also does not state state which version or publication it is so buyer beware. When compared to the original publication in 1933 its is not in any way similar. I would not recommend it. I would instead recommend going to your local bookstore for a real copy of Woodson work, this is a fabrication.

it's formatted like an e-book but one of my questions is is it like the first edition? That part I'm not sure of as it doesn't specify in the book or the ad. It's not a big paperback like I expected it to be but maybe that's because I expected it and it wasn't a big book to begin with. EDIT: I got a hold of the publishers of this book and this book is not abridged also IT IS TAKEN FROM THE FIRST EDITION/PUBLISHING WITH NO EDITS OR OMISSIONS .

This book could have been written as an indictment of some contemporary school districts. Carter G. Woodson had a crystal clear understanding as to how the educational system of his time period was failing to properly educate young black children. This was written during the early part of the twentieth century, barely two generations after the abolition of slavery. Everything was an uphill struggle, but most blacks knew that without a decent education, there was no way black people could advance as a group. He points out in his book the many systemic factors that lent itself to the intentional miseducation of the children of color in the public school system. A fascinating work, and still timely, considering the problems that the public school system is still having nationwide, especially in the urban areas.

Where was this book when I was going to school from 1950-62? I could not put it down once I began to read it, because it reminded me of so much of what I needed in my growth and developement was not made available to me as a young person of color growing up in a segregated society, and many of those who think that we have arrived at a color-blind point in America need to read this book, and then compare it to what is happening with us today. The author was relevent then in his revelations and in his effort to open eyes and minds to the lack of knowledge of self, and is more relevent now, because, too many educated people of color find it even harder to succeed in today's job market and the available employment opportunities. We still allow others to control almost every aspect of our lives, including what we are to learn, think, and accept from the world in which we live and the institutions which influences the minds of our children. Morover, we continue to consume more of what others produce for us than what we produce for ourselves. It is time we become producers and traders of goods and services in this nation and in our communities, and we should insist that our children be taught skills that will help them to become self-sufficient and self-reliant. A college education means nothing if you cannot do more than just make a living, and if what you have studied is not marketable for more than teaching the same to someone else. Help someone to learn to produce something or provide a service that is needed by others in a world that is forever changing.

I gave this book four stars. The reason I gave this book a good rating, because the problems I read in this book about the mis education of the negro, still exists today. For example, black people still don't show one another respect especially if he or she has prosper in life. Black people still cannot take order from another black person for some reason but when you put a white person in charge, blacks will listen without no problems. Also black people do not have confidence in themselves and want to depend on the government ,which still make you a slave because you put in the hard work, you can accomplish anything in life. I'm a black man and I see this everyday and I'm sick of it. We don't shop we each other because we don't trust each other and blacks love to keep other blacks down instead of helping. I hope one day we can all come together but for right now, I know I sound pessimistic but it's not happening. Black people in the early centruy will be ashamed to see how the black people act today.

I wanted to see how the storyline would be and the title caught my attention! Overall the book was a good reading source.

It was so difficult and offensive to read LaDonna's and Ronald's dialogues. It had to ask myself was this written during slavery. We have hundreds of Olive Gardens, spas, and educated individuals in smaller towns.

When I started reading chapter one I was annoyed with the main charater. She was immature and unbelievable as a CEO let alone a woman in her 30's. I almost stopped reading and deleted this from my Kindle- until chapter 2 when LaDonna was introduced. LaDonna was warm, honest and so very country. Office Affairs was a good balance between lust and romance. After I gave the book a chance it was an okay read.

The book has a good story line, it's just that it is very rushed. I think the author could have explained things a little more and not try to rush and throw everything in. I also didn't like how she portrayed the people from down south making them sound ignorant and uneducated.

OFFICE AFFAIRS is simply a delightful read!Allysia, the main character, is so awesomely real and easy to identify with. All she wants is what most women want, a wonderful caring, thoughtful man, with whom she can spend the rest of her life. LaDonna is precious and extremely easy to fall in love with. She has a heart of gold, and truly cares for her best friend Allysia. When Allysia tries desperately to avoid flirtations from the man she secretly wants, LaDonna steps in to nudge her in the right direction. In the meantime, LaDonna finds a love interest of her own. The humor was on point and the lovemaking was hot...hot...hot! I would love to see more of Allysia and LaDonna in a sequel. A definite must read! "Office Affairs" is a true love story with an erotic twist. Ms. Vixen draws you into the lives of Allysia, LaDonna, Ronald, and Davis from the very beginning. She took me back to the south with LaDonna and Ronald's dialect. The love story between LaDonna and Ronald's was romantic and sweet, while Allysia and Davis' love scene was simply hot!!! The dialogue between Davis and his son, TyShawn, was too precious, and I was sad to see the story end. I loved that line..."I just had to relax, relate, and release." I cannot say enough good things about this book. I was going through some very rough times with my 14yo son, and was really at a loss for what to do with him. We nearly sent him away to boarding school because we just didn't know what to do. Reading this book... it was like Dr. Riley had already met with me and talked with me about my son. The example conversations in this book were almost word-for-word discussions we'd had and ridiculous statements my son had made. It was so comforting to know 1) we weren't the only ones going through this 2) there is a clinical diagnosis for his behavior (ODD) and 3) there were solutions and conversations we could immediately implement. We followed his suggestions and I can happily report that THEY WORK! Things are not always perfect, but with a teenager... they never will be. But there has been a marked improvement in both his behavior and how I and my husband react to his behavior which has changed the entire mood in our house for all of us. THANK YOU for this book!!!

I have a defiant teen and she was driving me crazy. I read this book and it seemed like the author knew my child personally! Very good practical tips and education. This book helped me see my teen daughter as a person and gave me insight in how she thinks and how to handle it. She still has issues but not as severe but ultimately the book helped me not be so mad. A must read for any parent that has an ODD child.

This author gave me so much insight into what a child with this disorder is thinking. He also gives tons of strategies on how to deal with outbursts and rude behavior. I would highly recommend this book. Easy to read. Easy to understand. I continue to use this book as a reference.

I am a grandmother to a Defiant Child, my loveable grandson. I am a retired psychiatric social worker and am familiar with the diagnosis and related behaviors. However, the successful understanding of why the oppositional behaviorscontinue to occur was an eye opener for me. Dr Riley truly understands these children and has provided parental understanding and techniques that help the child make better choices. I still pick this book up and review the responses and the whys of these behaviors. This is quite revolutionary! Dr Riley is not the only one who provides insight and help to parents and other caretakers and I applaud all of them. Dr Riley just helps me to understand and gives me clear cut remedies so I can be helpful.

I have two adopted children who were in the foster care system. Sometimes it is hard to determine what is defiance and what is normal behavior for a child. They do need to exert independence and they do want to fit in with their peers, so for me, I bought this book to help me parent them. There are so many times I have wanted to laugh (and sometimes cry) because this book is spot on. It's not a fluffy book that says try this and try that. It has good examples of how children/teens act and very good recommendations on how to parent. It is a good book for any parent, but for me, my children do show signs of defiance and the book is helping my husband and I identify those things we can do to be strong parents for our kids. It identifies areas where parents disagree and stresses the importance of working together. After all kids are professionals at finding a crack that they can wedge into to get what they want. You won't be sorry for reading this book.

We've been using some of the methods mentioned in this book for 2 weeks now. Things have become much better. So far only one meltdown. We usually have at least one every day. We've taken away his opportunities for getting into arguments with us and have given him clear choices, and after some consideration he has chosen the ones with the best outcome for everyone every time. He's still playing his games and telling us we are wrong, but not giving him any emotional reaction at all has made his outbursts so much shorter.There are some things in this book I don't care much for. I don't think the word punishment should belong in a modern book or household for that matter. But there are definitely some strategies that has worked for us so far. It's mostly about giving very clear direction, staying calm and letting your child know that you as the parent are ready to take control no matter what.We are no longer giving him anything to fight against and it works. Has his behavior changed much? No and yes. He still tries to argue and sneak around and get the upper hand, but our reaction to it has made things easier and means situations are not escalating.There might be better books out there, but this one has given us a good start.

If you are involved with a child that has been diagnosed as ADHD and/or ODD then you really should read this book. It provides you a very honest and fundamental understanding of how this child thinks and processes data. I first found the author early one morning on PBS. I am 66 years old and was delighted that here were exercises that I could perform without hating every minute. ( I am now not ashamed to say, "I hate yoga".) I am also, like her though not as accomplished, a former dancer but have let myself get out of shape. I have been really impressed with Miranda's program and bought several DVDs which I really like but out of laziness stopped doing. When I heard about her book I felt that it would re-motivate me. How true that is! The book really explains how important - and why - it is to work the muscles. Her program is the best at keeping a person from getting stoop-shouldered and slow and unsteady-gaited, typical of the elderly and the aging. She focuses on range of motion and strength which has the added benefit of developing balance which is completely important in and of itself. This is a really sound program and I think it should be taught and done by everyone, not just those of us who are up in years although for someone of my age who has been starting to see the effects of aging (a little hard to get out of the chair, sometimes hard to straighten up upon standing, etc.) it is absolutely ideal. I don't have a lot of aches and pains but her program is supposed to really help with that, as well.

found the answer i've been looking for. this book covers the answers for my ageing back and joints, The docs said I had arthritis, but I don't think so. I've started to employ some of the stretching that this book speaks of and one of my (5 year old) problems has started to respond nicely to. I plan on getting the DVD's and pursuing it farther.

I'm a lifelong exerciser, now in my 70's, with a strong aerobic and heavy-weight program. This approach has caused me to rethink my entire program. After two weeks, I feel stronger, more agile, more relaxed, better posture, than with my previous program. I still supplement the program with medium hand weights. But after each program, I no longer feel tired; instead I feel totally energized.

This book is like a cross between Pilates, ballet, yoga, physical therapy -- and more!!I studied classical ballet for years as a child, have done all kinds of dance and exercise throughout my life. Fads in exercising come and go! But this is here to stay! Great at any age! I ran across this program on PBS and said, "this is IT!"

I had results within 2 days doing only half of the exercises. A lot of my aches and pains were minimized or gone. I would recommend this book to everyone.

Everyone should read this book especially if they are over age 50 or have suffered chronic pain from any ailments involving muscles and bones. It is inspiring and has changed my attitude from giving up to new found hope. You can stay as young as you want if you will only try.

I was skeptical, but these exercises are really good. They're deceptively easy, but they're very effective in gaining flexibility and easing joint pain. I find it's very workable to do two sets of 10 minutes a day without even noticing.

I Have been with this series from the very beginning and let me tell you waiting for the release of each was excruciating. No more than this final book. Tides of Fortune did not disappoint. It was the perfect send off to the most incredible series I have ever read. It is my favorite series and I am really sad to see it end.The story was gripping and you learn to love and literally cherish each character. You grieve and laugh with them and this is the marker of an incredible author!! Julia is so talented with what she puts down. Well researched, well thought out , funny, witty and just all round lovely!!!You will not be disappointed with this book as I'm sure you have not been disappointed with the series.

I had never read anything by this Author before . I read the whole series and from book one to 6 ,I couldn't put them down til the end. I especially loved the ending in book 6 for Alex and Beth ,after having to go through danger, heartbreak, separation and thinking the other one was death.I loved Anthony/Alex and his amazing abilities and Beth her strength her kindness and loyalty and their great love for each other.It was the most captivating series I have read about the Scottish Highlanders and Prince Charles to regain the English Throne .I also enjoyed the factual historical comments at the end of each book. I am very much looking forward to reading more of her books.

This series has been so amazing that for the first time in my life I preordered a book before it even came out! I had my husband take the day off work so he could watch our daughter just so I could sit uninterrupted all day and find out how the story ends. I have to admit with each page I had growing dread at what emptiness I would feel after finishing the series, but was so captivated I couldn't help but continue reading.Rarely does an author pull off a perfect ending to a series as much loved as this one, but Julia manages to do it. Bravo to the best series I have read in 10+ years.

Having read the previous books in this engrossing historical series I cannot believe this is the last. It brought tears to my eyes. If you're looking for a series in which you will feel as though you are there, love history and romance you must read the whole series. Ms. Brannan has a rare style of writing that few authors are capable of. You will feel the heartache, turmoil and love as you read. You will become one with the characters and never be disappointed.

I have just finished reading the final volume in this amazing series. Not only did I find more information on the Jacobite rebellions, but also the brutal aftermath for the Highlanders. The writing was exquisite, the fictional characters were expertly developed. I was most engaged by Anthony/Alex and his unusual acting ability. I must confess he is one of my favorite heroes along with Jamie Fraser. This series is a must read.

Having read the first five books in the series, I was hoping not to be disappointed by the sixth, which is I think the conclusion. Well done, Julia Brannan, for pulling together so many threads, for enriching the story with new and unexpected elements. It is impossible to say much without letting slip spoliers. I can only say to anyone approaching this book to read the rest of the series, in order, first, for maximum enjoyment. There are interesting historical elements to pick up as one reads this marvellous exciting and romantic story.

Hated that character Duncan was killed off. Could have seen a series around him. Now can see a series built up along the lines of children of the characters as young men and women 18-20 years later. Loved the historical characters interwoven though out and the political and cultural history of the time period covered so well down to the details of clothing styles. Very intriguing and informative. I also loved the writing style moving between characters with chapters of their own with their own thoughts and feelings. Very humanistic approach which made the characters believable.

The writing and stories are all superb!As an Outlander fan and still awaiting the ninth book, I found this series and figured I’d give it a chance. I fell in love with the characters, their humanity, their stories and with the bits of comic relief sprinkled throughout, I truly enjoyed it all. Having started late, I only waited for this last installment and it didn’t disappoint! There are similarities between this series and Outlander but the books differ greatly and leads one on a wonderful journey that I found worth every moment! I have found a new author to follow and I am very excited to see what she comes out with next!!

I hope that people read this book specially the young generation. every choice bring consequences. I did not like B Shapiro before, I am a hart core liberal... but the guy is fascinating very smart and talented men.

An important read that is becoming more and more relevant. This book is chock full of dizzying statistics.

My wife and I listened to this (sometimes) graphic description of the absolute moral decay of our society's morals and intend to have our grown children who are parents listen to it. We both felt that anyone who disagrees with this book is pretty much duped by the very problem this country has caved to--the brain washed moral relativism preached by Hollywood and those who lack intelligence levels above the waist. Anyone who takes a birds-eye view as to where we're headed as a culture can't deny we've taken a nose dive--and it has affected everything from the economy to the destruction of the family. The leftist "free pass anything goes" sex frenzy is evidence enough Mr. Shapiro is spot-on with the causes of the problems of how the cancer of immorality is ruining our society, and I'm thrilled to see someone who has the guts to call a spade a spade with regard to the utter nonsense and sophistry of sexual perversion in all its forms. We are recommending the book to everyone we know.

As described way too expensive

Always loved Ben Shapiro and reading this book made me love him more. This book opened my eyes to the problems of society and made me want to change some of my values.

Ben shapiro is a true role model of young conservatives.
