Mist, Metal, and Ash is the second book in the Ink, Iron, and Glass series. The series is best read in order for the events of book two to make sense.After Leo betrayed his friends and escaped back through the portal with the editbook created by Elsa's mother, Elsa, Porzia, and Faraz are left to pick up the pieces left after the battle they just fought against Riciotti Garibaldi, Leo's father, and Aris, Leo's brother. Together the three friends begin a plan to retrieve the editbook to keep Garibaldi from destroying the world and killing countless people. When the trio finds out Leo is actually on their side, they use his knowledge to enhance their strategy and enlist more help. They use their various gifts of scriptology, mechanical engineering, and alchemy to find the Garibaldis' lair, and thus begins a fight none of them had bargained for.After reading Ink, Iron, and Glass and utterly enjoying it, I couldn't wait to read the sequel. I wasn't disappointed. The unique pairing of fantasy, science, and literature was absolutely fascinating, and I thought it worked out well. The characters were realistic, the descriptions were vivid, and the plot was engaging. One of my favorite characters was Skandar, Faraz's creature. Even though he didn't speak, he was used as comic relief and played a big role in the plot. A big surprise for me was the developing relationship between Porzia and Revan, which I thought was sweet. I didn't agree with some of the views expressed, but other than that I really enjoyed this book. There were some loose ends left untied at the end, so I'm hoping for a book three... I know this duology isn't for everyone, but this unique world will delight those who enjoy fantasy and science fiction. I highly recommend it!I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley. A positive review was not required, and all opinions expressed are entirely my own.
This is the sequel to the amazing debut Ink, Iron, and Glass. This series reminds me a lot of the Map Makers series. I find the concept of being able to create worlds out of words is an amazing concept with so much potential. This series does not let you down with its excitement, danger, and plot twists. I love Elsa and what she stands for in using and preserving her gift to create worlds.The ending of the first book was so heart wrenching I just had to get my hands on the second book. What we think we know just is not always the case and we discover that in book two. I love the fact that their no time missing between the books and it picks up right where we left off in book one.This book has two storylines flowing altogether, we have Elsa trying to save Leo. We have Casa the house which has gone insane. Casa the house going all protective on everyone was great as it totally something you can see happening.With the Leo end of the story, we get a lot more in-depth on his character and the whole backstory of his family. How cruel and insane his dad is and what depths his brother will go to be loyal to him. Then their a very interesting twist towards the end that really changes up the whole dynamics. There a lot of nice scenes with steampunk themes and their plenty of world book fun to be had. This is a great series and I highly recommend you check it out. This book is due out February 19, 2019

I ended up loving the world and its nuances: differences from our own, but some similarities, too. There’s a lot of action here, and a bit of romance, but it’s all woven together seamlessly. Mist, Metal, and Ash was enjoyable but should only be read if readers have finished the first volume.
It took me a little while to get into this book, since I'd just finished a very different one and I had some whiplash. There were a lot of reminders in the first few chapters about what happened in book one, which I personally didn't need because it had only been a handful of months since I finished Ink, Iron, and Glass. I'm sure it will be helpful to some readers.I love the concept of this series, the characters are great, and the set pieces are wonderful -- and all of this is just as true for the second volume as for the first. An M.C. Escher mazebook with dangerous localized gravity? Sign me up! The pacing sometimes seemed rushed, but the storyline was exciting enough to drag me along quite pleasantly once I'd gotten back into it. The conclusion was satisfying and final. A fun quick read!
