ABOUT THE EDITORS... James Marshall, MA, LLP, is a psychotherapist and Director of the 911 Training Institute. He now educates telecommunicators in personal resilience and 9-1-1 call mastery, and advocates in the 9-1-1 industry to support these causes. “Jim†has been a licensed clinician for over thirty years and was the founding chair of the 9-1-1 Wellness Foundation. He co-chaired the workgroup that authored the industry’s first Standard on Acute/Traumatic and Chronic Stress Management, and co-authored Reaching the Unseen First Responder With EMDR, a chapter in a textbook for clinicians, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Scripted Protocols and Summary Sheets: Treating trauma, anxiety and medical related conditions (Springer, 2015). Jim earned his Masters of Arts in clinical psychology from Wheaton College (IL). Tracey Laorenza, BS, is currently the communications coordinator of a public safety department at a college in Massachusetts. She is the editor for South of Heaven Press, and co-editor of The Resilient 9-1-1 Professional. For eighteen years, Tracey was a 9-1-1 police and fire dispatcher; sixteen of which she served as a dispatch shift leader for a suburban police department in Michigan. She was also an instructor within the 9-1-1 Dispatch Academy at Oakland Community College (MI), as well as with Macnlow Associates (MI). I'm a training coordinator in my dispatch center and I've been looking for new training topics to develop our monthly training, so I bought this book. I have to say, it is more relatable to me than any other resilience and stress management book I have read so far, including those for "law enforcement."It's a good read for dispatchers, first responders, supervisors and the general public to understand the ups and downs of this job and what it actually means to take those calls, become involved with each caller's/responder's crisis, and how sometimes we make it our own.So good chapter 7 comes with a pretty stiff warning.Going to buy another copy for my center for sure.
If you are a telecommunicator looking for something that could change your outlook on your career choice.... Then look no further. No matter if your new to the profession or a seasoned dispatcher this book is for you! Everyone stresses mental health for police, Fire and EMS , now here’s a book for us!!!

I can’t recommend this book enough. If you’re a dispatcher/ call taker you NEED this book. If you’re married or family member of a dispatcher, it’s a must read.
This book is definitely one of the best I have read. I recommend this to all of my co-workers. It's the real deal.
